Happy B-day Truman “Dr. Know” Peebles, 107!

Today my grandfather, Truman Peebles, aka “Dr. Know,” has turned 107.

Why “Dr. Know?” At the ripe old age of 86 my grandfather obtained his PhD in psychology, and around that time my uncle, coined the nickname, which is his de facto these days.

Dr. Know resides in Trevignano, Italy, on tranquil Lake Bracciano near Rome. I am often asked if he is Italian, but no, he simply moved there in 1951, and other than a few stints away has resided ever since! Good plug for the Mediterranean Diet, although he still enjoys good old Jack Daniels, on the rocks with a good bit of water.

I suppose I could write a good deal about what he’s seen in life. One story that comes to mind is one he tells about meeting Babe Ruth in his hometown of Morristown, NJ. The “Babe” came out to show him and a group of kids some pointers about baseball, how to hold a bat, etc. I’ve wondered is there anybody else out there still who actually met Babe Ruth in the flesh?
